I have personally been on the recovery journey now for a number of years. Each day I tend to my personal health through prayer and meditation, connection in the recovery community, spending time out in nature, daily walks, exercise and being mindful of what I’m eating. My life is one thousand percent better because of this change I made years ago. But life still happens with its ups and downs and all the in between. There have been times in my journey where I have included professional help through varied health care professionals such a therapist to help process things that come up along the way.
Even with tending to all the things, my nervous system can still ride on overload. This is one of the main reasons I began my study of herbalism. I was looking for ways to holistically treat my nervous system and decrease stress and anxiety. Regulating my nervous system today is vital for my physical, emotional and mental well-being.
I no longer rely on the crutch I used when I would reach for alcohol and other means to self sooth and “take the edge off.” Yet, that dang stress was still there. Years ago, I was introduced to a variety of plants and herbs that support the overloaded nervous system, adrenal fatigue, sleep issues, and emotional imbalances. I needed options that were going to be safe for me to use, non habit forming, non-addictive based. It started with a simple hot infusion (or cup of tea) of well known herbs such as chamomile, lemon balm and passionflower. This ritual of making a cup of tea with these herbs has become a valuable resource which I include daily for my health which has worked really well for me. So much that I decided to continue my education in learning all about herbalism and how I can help others too.
If there is one thing I have learned that I think is the greatest asset to one’s overall well being is that of connection. Being in recovery has taught me this on a very grand scale. I could not have made that tough decision years ago without the help, love and care of many. I can not live this life alone, nor do I have to. My connection and study of herbalism has added even more connection in my life. From growing my own personal garden, to taking a walk out in nature and recognizing all the beautiful medicine around us, to sipping a cup of tea with family and friends.
As a way to share in this connection, I am offering 20% off for the month of September on all tea blends. I hope this helps you to find more peace, calm and connection in your life.
Remember you are not alone and as the spiritual teacher, Ram Dass says, “We are all just walking each other home.”
